Hazel Virginia Washko

Author of “My Guardian Angels Do Talk”

Hazel was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 3, 1928 and passed away on February 21, 2021 at the age of 92.

Hazel moved to Rockport in 1969 with her husband, John, and their children. She owned and operated Town & Country Beauty Shop for many years before she and John opened “The Blue Bell Waffle Cone Ice Cream Parlor & Restaurant” in 1987. They were the first to introduce Blue Bell ice cream to the area. They owned and operated the ice cream shop till they sold it and retired in 2007.

They both loved their life serving Rockport at the ice cream shop for 27 years, and Rockport loved them back

After John passed away in 2015, Hazel called Portland home till Hurricane Harvey’s damage forced her to relocate to San Antonio where she lived near her daughter, Donna, till her death.

Hazel is survived by all five of their children: John Jr. (Skip) and wife, MaryJane of Rockport; Donna Kowall and husband, Jim, of San Antonio; Scott and wife, Connie of Missouri City; David and wife, Teresa of Rockport; and William of Corpus Christi; as well as, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

She is greatly loved, and will be missed.
