Wrapping it up

More than 400 Aransas County children will receive Christmas gifts from the Children’s Coalition of Aransas County this week. Volunteers are busy wrapping gifts that include quilts and stockings, and a wide assortment of toys provided primarily by Toys for Tots.

The Children’s Coalition of Aransas County has partnered with Toys for Tots, as well as several other organizations and individuals in order to bring Christmas to 425 Aransas County children who might otherwise not receive a gift this Christmas.

CCAC Executive Director Dianne Nielsen said, “We are real happy to be partnering with Toys for Tots (and others) in this work.”

The Toys for Tots program provided the majority of the toys, and the Crazy Quilters from First United Methodist Church made 247 stockings. Each year the church’s Christmas Stocking ministry selects a group to received the stockings.

“The stockings are beautiful, which is an understatement,” said CCAC volunteer Gail Thompson.

Piecemakers by the Bay members provided 300-plus homemade quilts for distribution, and Helen Thomas sewed children’s clothes and knapsacks.

The CCAC is distributing the toys, stockings, quilts, and clothes to the selected children through this Friday at their Santa Workshop.
