Nine to state

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Choir recently competed in the University Interscholastic League Solo and Ensemble contest Saturday, Feb. 1.

RFHS took 19 students to competition. 18 of them prepared for a solo song. RFHS also had a madrigal group made up of nine students.

All 18 solo singers received a superior rating of a 1. The madrigal also received a superior rating of a 1.

Of the 18 soloists, nine of them will advance to the State Solo and Ensemble Competition. The group of nine students a part of the madrigal will also advance to State.

Students that received a superior rating on a Class 1 solo and advancing to state, are Jennifer Billy, Rebecca Brooks, Lauren Corry, Elissa Covington, Ayslian Garcia, Kassidy Kahn, Nicole Moreno, Alexis Reyes, and Kynndrah Warner.

Students that received a superior rating on the Class 1 madrigal and advancing to state, are Makenzie Barg, Brooks, Corry, Garcia, Moreno, Aven Nguyen, Reyes, Devin Ruiz, and Warner.

Students that received a superior rating on a Class 2 solo are William Barefield, Mireya Cano, Daisy Flores, Kaylie Collins, David Loveall Jr., Nguyen, Valerie Villanueva, and Savannah Tardiff.

Receiving a superior rating on a Class 3 solo was Ashley Hull.

Students advancing to the State Solo and Ensemble contest will compete on Saturday, May 30 and Monday, June 1. The contest will be in Austin at a location that is yet to be determined.
