Early Thursday, March 19 officers with the Rockport Police Department (RPD) assisted investigators with the Texas Attorney General’s (AG) Office Child Exploitation Unit in serving a search warrant related to the possession of child pornography at the home of Rockport resident Mark Malone.
Malone is the Aransas County Independent School District’s (ACISD) girl’s athletic coordinator and head girl’s basketball coach at Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS). He also served as truancy officer.
Subsequent to the search warrant being served, Malone was arrested for two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and transported to the Aransas County Detention Center.
Investigators searched Malone’s office and computer equipment at RFHS in coordination with ACISD Police and administration. At this time, no evidence has been found to indicate any ACISD student or any child from the Rockport-Fulton area has been victimized.
This is an ongoing investigation, which will likely take many months to complete, according to RPD Chief Greg Stevens.
A press release from the ACISD noted the district was notified that a search warrant had been served at Malone’s home.
He has been employed by the school district since August 2019.
The ACISD news release noted the ACISD has not made any determination as to whether Malone engaged in any inappropriate conduct, but “he was immediately placed on administrative leave.”
The news release said the ACISD’s most important concern is the safety of its students.
