Open again!

The Fairfield Inn and Suites was officially reopened with a ribbon cutting Thursday, May 30. The scene today is much different than it was after Hurricane Harvey. The storm caused catastrophic damage to the hotel.

The Fairfield Inn and Suites was one of the most photographed buildings after Hurricane Harvey after a large portion of the east wall of that structure collapsed. That reality is now in the past.

Owner Jatin Bhakta, family members, and employees joined elected officials, Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce representatives, and well-wishers for a grand reopening and ribbon cutting for the hotel Thursday, May 30, officially reopening the 87-room hotel, 21 months after the storm.

The Fairfield Inn opened in December 2016, eight months prior to Harvey.

Bhakta also owns the LaQuinta Inn and Suites and the Hampton Inn. Only the Hampton Inn remains closed. Bhakta took the opportunity presented by Harvey to add an additional floor to that hotel, which is expected to open this fall.

“I have one week left as chairman of the Chamber, so the timing is perfect,” said Bhakta.

Thursday was the ceremonial opening, but the Fairfield was open in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The refurbished hotel includes newly designed rooms, a different layout in the lobby, and other amenities.
