Aransas County Tax Assessor/Collector Jeri Cox reported she received an email from a taxpayer saying she had just received a homestead designation services form in the mail under the header “ARANSAS DESIGNATION OF HOMESTEAD REQUEST FORM”.

Cox forwarded the email to Aransas County Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Mike Soto. He said, “Although (the mailing) is not fraud, it is confusing to the lay person.

“To be clear, the Residential Homestead exemption application (form 50-114) is on our website at no cost to the public.”

Cox noted, “Homestead Designation Services (the name of the company mailing its services to Aransas County property owners) is not affiliated with the state of Texas or any government entity and its form actually states, ‘For information on designation of homestead under the Texas Property Code, contact your attorney.’”
