The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was down 7.34% this month, and is up 5.91% through the first nine months of 2020.
Only Fulton received a larger check this month than it did in September 2019.
Aransas County received 4.73% less and 6.39% less from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received 10.74% less. The Town of Fulton received 9.95% more.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $23,225.06 this month, compared to $21,122.40 in September 2019. The town has collected $162,501.15 (+5.32%) year to date, compared to $154,279.72 for the same period last year.
The City of Rockport received $249,327.97 this month, compared to $279,358.12 in September 2019. The City has collected $2,121,703.14 (+3.04%) year to date, compared to $2,059,024.93 for the same period last year.
Aransas County received $155,960.01 this month, compared to $163,710.13 in September 2019. Year to date, the county has received $1,316,553.39 (+8.35%), compared to $1,214,983.39 for the same period last year.
The county also received a check for $155,340.01 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $165,945.65 in September 2019. The county has received $1,320,078.30 (+8.35%) year to date, compared to $1,218,304.84 through September last year.
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $765.3 million in sales tax allocations, down 4.5%, compared with September 2019.
The comptroller sent $495.2 million in sales tax to Texas cities, down 4.8%, compared to September 2019 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $46.1 million, down 9.4%, compared to September 2019 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $60.1 million, down 1.8%, compared to September 2019 payments.
