The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was up 4.41% this month, and closes 2020 up 5.95%.
Aransas County received 4.91% more and 5.49% more from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received 3.16% more. The Town of Fulton received 7.92% more.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $18,100.28 this month, compared to $16,771.51 in December 2019. The town has collected $224,152.05 (+8.99%) year to date, compared to $205,649.27 for the same period last year.
The City of Rockport received $232,326.39 this month, compared to $225,206.35 in December 2019. The City has collected $2,864,158.60 (+3.17%) year to date, compared to $2,775,938.30 for the same period last year.
Aransas County received $144,637 this month, compared to $137,861.16 in December 2019. Year to date, the county has received $1,775,959.71 (+8.06%), compared to $1,643,465.71 for the same period last year.
The county also received a check for $144,864.73 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $137,321.81 in December 2019. The county has received $1,778,182.78 (+8.12%) year to date, compared to $1,644,533.02 through December last year.
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $790.3 million in sales tax allocations, down 3.7%, compared with December 2019.
The comptroller sent $510.7 million in sales tax to Texas cities, down 2.5%, compared to December 2019 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $47 million, down 7.6%, compared to December 2019 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $61.9 million, down 3.2%, compared to December 2019 payments.
