There were 12 burglaries of motor vehicles in the Rockport Country Club and Whistler’s Cove subdivisions during the past weekend, according to Rockport Police Department CID Commander Jerry Lawing.
He noted only one of the burglaries involved someone actually breaking into a vehicle.
Lawing said items stolen included coins, tools and one firearm.
“Nobody should ever leave a firearm in a car unless it’s a two lock rule,” said Lawing.
That means having the firearm locked/secured inside the vehicle, and the vehicle locked, as well.
The best way to prevent these type thefts is to make sure one’s vehicle is locked.
“Please, lock your vehicles,” said Lawing.
He said there are “some persons of interest” in the investigation.
