(Editor’s note: The Rockport Pilot will publish in each edition the latest COVID-19 report received from Aransas County’s public information officer. It will include the historical case count, number recovered, and number of deaths, as well as any pertinent information related to the virus.)
Through Wednesday, Dec. 9 Aransas County had a historical count of 466 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those 466 cases, 380 have recovered (65 active cases), per reporting from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). All data is provisional and subject to change. County officials report compiling this data has been a challenge because of all the moving parts, and they are working closely with the DSHS to align and clarify information.
This latest report includes nine more cases, and one more death, compared to the numbers reported in the Dec. 9 edition of this newspaper.
There are 21 confirmed fatalities since the beginning of reporting.
DSHS reports COVID-19 fatality data based on death certificates. A fatality is counted when the medical certifier attests on the death certificate that COVID-19 is “a” cause of death.
The DSHS is supporting Aransas County in identifying any close contacts of the patients so they can be isolated and monitored for symptoms. If the DSHS has not contacted you, there is no need to take any action at this time.
The public can find up-to-date coronavirus information and what to do if you’re sick at dshs.texas.gov.
