Hundreds of music fans are in Rockport this week for a two-night concert honoring the work of the late Guy Clark. He spent his formative years in Rockport in the 1950s. Much of Clark’s work, including his 1992 song, “Boats to Build,” was influenced by his Rockport years. His 1981 album, South Coast of Texas¸ features Rockport on its cover.
Many of Clark’s songs were recorded or performed by performers such as Johnny Cash, Roseanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lyle Lovett and Asleep at the Wheel.
The two concerts, set for Thursday, Aug. 1 and Friday, Aug. Aug. 2 at LaPalma Events Center, will feature Clark’s songs, as well as stories about him. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m.
The Thursday show is sold out, and only a limited number of seats are still available for the Friday show.
Tickets can be obtained at the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce or online at aransascountyhistoricalsociety.com. Tickets are $35 each in advance, and $40 at the door, if available.
Ticket sales benefit the Aransas County Historical Society, a non-profit organization established in 1985. It is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Aransas County.
