Getting ready

Participants in Christmas on the Beach met at the circle at Rockport Beach Thursday, Nov. 19 to hear about the details for the event, and to begin preparations.

The Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) and local non-profit organizations and businesses to bring a “lighted” holiday experience for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The five-week display is planned Sunday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Jan. 3 at the circle area at the north end of Rockport Beach.

At this time of year when one traditionally celebrates the holiday season, there is still much uncertainty. By staying safe and healthy in one’s car, this drive thru light display is sure to bring joy and happiness.

Numerous organizations and one business are participating in this inaugural display.

“We’ve had great involvement this first year and hope the display will grow and others will want to get involved in years to come,” said Chamber Vice President of Marketing and Promotion Sandy Jumper.

ACND Harbor Master Keith Barrett said, “We have had the lone lighted tree at the beach for years, but adding more to it just makes sense.”

As one drives to the circle at the beach, he or she will see a “Gingerbread Welcome Center.” Volunteers handing out treats will man it.

The display will be open to the public from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

The display will be closed Saturday, Dec. 5 due to the Tropical Christmas fireworks display that evening.

Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. They will be divided and given to the participating non-profit organizations.
