The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was up 1.82% this month, and is up 5.15% through the first five months of 2020.
Only the Town of Fulton received a smaller check this month than it did in May 2019.
Aransas County received 3.47% more and 1.9% more from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received 3.2% more. The Town of Fulton received 28.44% less.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly, and sales made in January, February, and March by quarterly filers.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $13,917.14 this month, compared to $19,448.73 in May 2019. The town has collected $78,638.95 (+1.6%) year to date, compared to $77,395.25 for the same period last year.
The City of Rockport received $247,021.91 this month, compared to $239,349.49 in May 2019. The City has collected $1,096,497.19 (+2.72%) year to date, compared to $1,067,397 for the same period last year.
Aransas County received $150,707.04 this month, compared to $145,641.86 in May 2019. Year to date, the county has received $679,884.56 (+7.58%), compared to $631,942.99 for the same period last year.
The county also received a check for $148,456.56 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $145,681.39 in May 2019. The county has received $677,240.26 (+7.23%) year to date, compared to $631,529.29 through May last year.
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $824.1 million in sales tax allocations, down five percent, compared with May 2019.
The comptroller sent $532.2 million in sales tax to Texas cities, down 5.1%, compared to May 2019 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $51.6 million, down 2.8%, compared to May 2019 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $65.7 million, up 3.1%, compared to May 2019 payments.
