Aransas County commissioners, at their regular meeting Monday, March 9, approved two items related to the Aransas County Pathways’ Southern Trail Project.

The court first approved authorizing County Judge C.H. “Burt” Mills to sign an agreement with Strand Engineering for design and engineering services for the trail project.

It then approved the first payment of $6,345 to the Texas Department of Transportation. That payment will be made with funds from a bond for venue capital projects.

Aransas County Project Manager John Strothman said this part of the county’s trail system was been in the works for four years.

The Southern Trail Project will extend the current hike and bike trail system from the corner of Cornwall and Live Oak streets, south to First Street, and then east to Water Street’s designated hike/bike lane.
