The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was down 7.71 percent this month, and is down 7.89 percent through the first seven months of 2019.
Aransas County received 7.51 percent less and 11.55 percent less from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received four percent less. The Town of Fulton received 19.77 percent less.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in May by businesses that report tax monthly.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $20,269.12 this month, compared to $25,266.58 in July 2018. The town has collected $113,625.65 (-11.61 percent) year to date, compared to $128,552.68 for the same period last year.
The City of Rockport received $226,262.58 this month, compared to $235,690.66 in July 2018. The City has collected $1,517,044.36 (-6.82 percent) year to date, compared to $1,628,089.27 for the same period last year.
Aransas County received $136,785.22 this month, compared to $147,898.96 in July 2018. Year to date, the county has received $903,148.18 (-7.74 percent), compared to $978,974.92 for the same period last year.
The county also received a check for $137,485.31 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $155,438.46 in July 2018. The county has received $903,317.68 (-9.3 percent) year to date, compared to $995,958.38 through July last year.
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $764.3 million in sales tax allocations, up .7 percent, compared with July 2018.
The comptroller sent $488.9 million in sales tax to Texas cities, up .4 percent, compared to July 2018 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $47.6 million, down 2.3 percent, compared to July 2018 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $58.6 million, up 9.1 percent, compared to July 2018 payments.
