RFHS students participating in VASE, in alphabetical order, are Amber Barrera, Anna Birdsong, Marina Bogaards, Angela Cabuling, Kaitlyn Carruth, Nancy Coronado, Brandon Cruz, Alexis Espino, Rebecca Garcia, Jolie Hamilton, Kathryn Hill, Katie Hinson, Jude Hutt, Katie Johnson, Sophie Johnson, Kolbe King, Joshua Kuykendall, Genesis Martin, Jada Matney, Liberty Meyers, Nicole Moreno, Xavier Moreno, Nathaly Ochoa, Isabelle Randall, Jacqueline Ransom, Alyna Salazar, Zayra Salazar, Kaylie Skinner, Alexis Steward, Jose Villanueva, and Evelyn Woodruff.

Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) art students recently competed in the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) Saturday, Feb. 22 in Gregory-Portland. Two students, Jada Matney and Nicole Moreno, qualified pieces to advance to state competition.

32 students traveled and submitted a combined 44 pieces of art for competition. 23 of those students’ pieces qualified for a superior rating, receiving Area honors. Of the 23 students that received Area recognition among 31 pieces of art, Matney and N. Moreno each qualified one piece to advance to state competition.

Students that earned Area honors are Anna Birdsong, Angela Cabuling, Alexis Espino (two pieces), Rebecca Garcia, Jolie Hamilton, Kathryn Hill, Jude Hutt, Katie Johnson, Sophie Johnson, Kolbe King, Joshua Kuykendall (two pieces), Genesis Martin, Matney (two pieces, one qualifying for state), Liberty Meyers (two pieces), N. Moreno (two pieces, one qualifying for state), Xavier Moreno, Nathaly Ochoa, Isabelle Randall, Jacqueline Ransom (two pieces), Alyna Salazar (two pieces), Kaylie Skinner (two pieces), Alexis Steward, and Evelyn Woodruff.

Matney and N. Moreno will compete in the state VASE competition beginning Friday, April 24 in San Marcos.
