Vote early

The turnout for the first three days of early voting in the Nov. 3 Election was brisk. This picture was taken at the Aransas County Elections Office as the polls opened the first day. Voters are reminded there are two polling locations (Elections Office and Fulton Volunteer Fire Department) during early voting (see story).

Early voting for the Nov. 3 General Election began Tuesday, Oct. 13, and the two polling locations are seeing heavy traffic, according to Interim Aransas County Elections Administrator Kevin Stroud.

Even with the heavy turnout, Stroud noted, “It hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.”

This is the first election in which an additional polling place has been used for early voting, with the addition of the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD).

“I think it has been very successful,” said Stroud. “People are still a little confused, not realizing there is another polling location. We tell people they can go to the FVFD if the line here (Aransas County Elections Office) is long.”

About twice as many voters are casting their vote at the Elections Office, compared to the FVFD.

Through Thursday, Oct. 15 (three days of early voting) there were 3,994 ballots cast. That number includes 691 mail ballots.

The 3,303 ballots cast in person were evenly distributed during the first three days, with 1,041 cast Tuesday, 1,196 on Wednesday, and 1,066 on Thursday.

Roughly one-third of the in-person ballots have been cast at the FVFD.

The ballot items of local significance include Aransas County’s three propositions, and the selection of mayor for the City of Rockport.

Roughly 22% of 18,529 registered Aransas County voters cast their ballot through the first three days of early voting. There were 17,333 registered voters in the county in 2018.
