The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was up 13.12 percent this month, the first month of the calendar year.
Aransas County received 14.99 percent more and 15.07 percent more from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received 11.05 percent more. The Town of Fulton received 9.87 percent more.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $14,804.55 this month, compared to $13,474.60 in January 2019.
The City of Rockport received $204,976.64 this month, compared to $184,576 in January 2019.
Aransas County received $126,816.96 this month, compared to $110,275.64 in January 2019.
The county also received a check for $127,535 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $110,823.78 in January 2019
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $763.8 million in sales tax allocations, up four percent, compared with January 2019.
The comptroller sent $488.7 million in sales tax to Texas cities, up 3.9 percent, compared to January 2019 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $47.7 million, up .2 percent, compared to January 2019 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $58.1 million, up 2.2 percent, compared to January 2019 payments.
