Aransas County Independent School District (ACISD) trustees approved the 2021-22 budget and set the 2021 tax rate in a special meeting Thursday, Aug. 26.

The board unanimously approved both items in a short meeting. ACISD trustee Eli Ramos was not present.

No one spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting.

The ACISD adopted a budget with $38,757,187 in total revenues and $38,757,187 in total expenditures.

Payroll makes up 67.1% of total expenses. Local taxes provide the majority of revenue at 70.51%, or $27,325,791.

The new tax rate was set at $0.9315.

The 2020 rate was $0.9803.

The new rate consists of a Maintenance and Operations (M&O) rate of $0.8820, and an Interest and Sinking (I&S) rate of $0.0495.

The new rate does not exceed the no-new revenue tax rate.

The ACISD approved $1.1 million in salary increases in August to position itself as a top tiered paying district for teachers within the Education Service Center, Region 2.
