The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was down 5.16% this month, and is up 3.36% through the first six months of 2020.
All entities received smaller checks this month than they did in June 2019.
Aransas County received 2.57% less and 3.07% less from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received 7.26% less. The Town of Fulton received 15.06% less.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in April by businesses that report tax monthly. This report covers the first full month of the COVID-19 shutdown.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $13,556.87 this month, compared to $15,961.28 in June 2019. The town has collected $92,195.82 (-1.24%) year to date, compared to $93,356.53 for the same period last year.
The City of Rockport received $207,161.34 this month, compared to $223,384.78 in June 2019. The City has collected $1,303,658.53 (+.99%) year to date, compared to $1,290,781.78 for the same period last year.
Aransas County received $130,963.20 this month, compared to $134,419.97 in June 2019. Year to date, the county has received $810,847.76 (+5.8%), compared to $766,362.96 for the same period last year.
The county also received a check for $130,167.84 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $134,303.08 in June 2019. The county has received $807,408.10 (+5.42%) year to date, compared to $765,832.37 through June last year.
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $690.4 million in sales tax allocations, down 11.7%, compared with June 2019.
The comptroller sent $443.6 million in sales tax to Texas cities, down 11.1%, compared to June 2019 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $46.2 million, down 7.2%, compared to June 2019 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $57.6 million, down 4.4%, compared to June 2019 payments.
