Aransas County Judge C. H. “Burt” Mills, Jr. issued award letters to four non-profit organizations Thursday, June 25 in the amount of $35,625 each.

The organizations receiving the funds are Hands of Hope, Rockport-Fulton Good Samaritan, Children’s Coalition of Aransas County, and St Vincent de Paul.

The award letters are for the purpose of distributing Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding approved by Congress in April. The purpose of the funding is to support humanitarian assistance to persons in Aransas County who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

County commissioners approved a resolution at their meeting Monday, June 22 authorizing the distribution of the funds.

“We are pleased we could pass along the funding we were provided to help families that lost employment due to COVID-19,” said Judge Mills. “We thank Congressman Cloud for all his efforts in Washington. This assistance funding is to provide help with items like utilities, past due rent, food, and essential medical needs. Local residents who feel they qualify for this assistance can contact one of the four organizations. We thank them for their help and assistance in this time of need.”

The county recognizes funding provided is not adequate to meet all the needs in the community, however, it hopes the assistance provided will give some relief for residents.
