Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) commissioners, at their regular meeting Monday, Jan. 3, accepted the resignation of Pct. 2 Commissioner Tony Dominguez.

ACND Chairman Malcolm Dieckow said the district will hold a ceremony at a later date to honor Dominquez’s service.

Dominguez noted in his resignation letter that it has been a blessing to serve 17.5 years.

His brother, Hillis Dominquez, served as Pct. 2 commissioner for 22 years.

“There has been a Dominguez on the board, almost continuously, for 40 years,” said Dieckow.

The Dominquez family has lived in the area since the late 1880s.

T. Dominguez, in his letter, challenged commissioners to take care of the district’s assets, and understand it can damage the assets, as well.

Harbor Master Keith Barrett said the ACND will seek applications to fill Dominguez’ unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31 of this year.

Commissioner Tommy Moore noted Dominguez has been in his life since he was about 14 years old.

“He is an inspiration to me,” said Moore. “He always worried about the little guy.”
