Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) commissioners, at their regular meeting Monday, April 20, approved taking down barriers at their properties, which have been in place since Aransas County Judge C.H. “Burt” Mills, Rockport Mayor Pat Rios, and Fulton Mayor Jimmy Kendrick issued the initial Stay at Home Order in late March.

Immediately after that action, ACND Chairman Malcolm Dieckow contacted ACND Attorney Jerry Benadum and it was determined the ACND did not have the authority to take that action.

Dieckow contacted The Rockport Pilot to report the barriers at the boat ramps in Aransas County have not been removed and will not be removed until Judge Mills gives that directive.

The vote to take down the barriers at the Cove Harbor, Fulton, and Copano boat ramps (the ramps under the control of the ACND) was approved 3-2, with Dieckow and Commissioner Judy Vlasek opposing the measure. Commissioners Tommy Moore, Mickey Casterline, and Tony Dominguez voted for that action.
