The annual Veterans Day Observance will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park, adjacent to the Rockport Harbor. This year’s event will be a shortened version with the playing of the Star Spangled Banner, a prayer, and brief remarks honoring those who have served our nation.
The decision to have a shortened Veterans Day Observance was made by the Steward Wendell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
“The decision was not made lightly as this has always been a special time to recognize our veteran residents,” said Rockport Director of Parks & Leisure Services Rick Martinez. “With the recent uptick in coronavirus cases and the start of the flu season, coupled with the traditionally large attendance, the VFW decided to hold the event on a smaller scale so as not to put our veterans, their families and supporters, and members of the high school’s ROTC at risk.”
Texas Land Commissioner and Chairman of the Veterans Land Board George P. Bush will be hosting a virtual Veterans Day ceremony to honor and recognize our nation’s heroes who dedicated their lives to fighting for our freedom.
The ceremony will feature keynote remarks by Retired Major General Albert Zapanta, remarks by Bush, the national anthem performed by Operation Encore’s Shannon Book, and the Presentation of Colors by the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets.
The ceremony can be viewed Wednesday, Nov. 11 at noon at www.facebook.com/events/343260533616092/.
