Aransas County Commissioners, at their regular meeting Monday, Aug. 31, tabled two agenda items related to Aransas County Election Administrator Michele Carew’s resignation. In her letter of resignation she put a Sept. 18 effective date, but later noted that date could change depending on the county’s needs.

The court tabled accepting and approving Carew’s resignation because her last day as a county employee has not been settled.

Commissioners then tabled a decision about changing Kevin Stroud, the current temporary Elections Coordinator, to permanent, full-time employee status with the same step and grade. His salary is currently being paid through a CARES Act grant through Nov. 30.

The Aransas County Elections Commission, which includes the county judge, county clerk, tax assessor collector, and the two party chairmen, appoints the county’s election administrator.

Commissioner Wendy Laubach asked for clarification about if the county can post the position to be filled, even though the court hasn’t accepted Carew’s resignation.

Carew answered affirmatively.
