The Rockport Center for the Arts (RCA) has announced the promotion of Karen Ernst to the position of deputy director.

In her expanded role, Ernst will assist Executive Director Luis Purón in overall management of the organization. Her responsibilities will be focused on leadership, strategic plan implementation, program management, and operations.

Ernst will continue to manage the RCA’s education programming, including the popular Free Family Saturdays and ArtSpace Summer Youth Programs.

“Karen has proven herself to be an outstanding strategic thinker and a builder of excellent relationships,” said Purón. “For 14 years she has proven herself by taking on new challenges and handling them with great attention to detail and an eye for profitability.”

Ernst has more than 17 years of professional experience in the nonprofit fine arts sector. She holds an MBA from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, a Masters in Music Theory from the University of Kansas, an ABD in Music Theory from the University of Texas at Austin, and Bachelors in Instrumental Music Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
