Now open

The Beachfront pavilion at Rockport Beach is now open to the public. The Saltwater pavilion is expected to open by the July 4 weekend.

Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) commissioners, at their regular meeting Monday June 17, received an update from Harbor Master Keith Barrett regarding the status of the two Rockport Beach pavilions.

The Beachfront pavilion is now open, which means visitors have access to the public restrooms and showers, as well as the rental space. The first event in the upgraded facility was a wedding June 1.

“I don’t think anyone liked the portable toilets,” said Barrett. “To have the restrooms and showers opened up is nice for the public.”

The interior has been completely renovated and upgraded.

“It looks really nice,” said Barrett.

The new flooring surface aids the cleaning operation, and adds to the aesthetics of the pavilion.

He said the saltwater pavilion should be ready for use the first weekend in July.

“It seems like Harvey was yesterday, but a lot of work has been down on both (pavilions),” said Barrett.

He also noted Rockport Beach was awarded Blue Wave Beach status once again.

“There hasn’t been a year (we’ve missed that designation),” said Barrett.

He closed his remarks noting the Beach Park has been well used since school was released.

“We’re looking forward to a long, happy summer,” said Barrett.
