Happy retirement!

The 100 Club of Aransas County held its annual Appreciation Dinner and Awards Ceremony Thursday, Feb. 6 at Rockport Country Club. All members of local law enforcement agencies, as well as their spouses were introduced and thanked for a job well done by the 130 people in attendance. Officers are recognized for years of service in increments of five years. Aransas County Independent School District Chief of Police Sam Zapata was recognized for 35 years of service in the county. Det. Lauro Garcia (Ret.) was recognized for 25 years of service, 18 with the Rockport Police Department (RPD) and seven with the Aransas County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Tri-County Narcotics Taskforce. Garcia worked another 11 years with law enforcement agencies outside Aransas County. Pictured with Garcia, second from right, accepting his award, are RPD Commander Jerry Lawing,  RPD Administrative Assistant Nikki Yarnall, 100 Club President Bud Kittle, and RPD Commander Larry Sinclair. The 100 Club has provided an untold amount of equipment to local law enforcement agencies since it was formed in 1995. To become a member ($100 per year or $1,000 for lifetime membership), visit www.100clubofaransascounty.org. Less than seven percent of membership dues is spent on overhead expenses.
