(Editor’s note: The Rockport Pilot will no longer publish results of daily COVID-19 reports because the information received is now “provisional” and subject to change. When changes/adjustments are made, the statistics previously published, don’t add up. The Pilot will publish in each edition the latest report received from the county’s public information officer. It will include the overall number of cases, number recovered, and number of deaths.)

Through Monday, Sept. 28 Aransas County had a historical count of 323 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those 323 cases, 304 have recovered, per reporting from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). There are 18 confirmed fatalities since the beginning of reporting.

This latest report includes one new case, and the same number of deaths, compared to the numbers reported in the Sept. 26 edition of this newspaper.

DSHS reports COVID-19 fatality data based on death certificates. A fatality is counted when the medical certifier attests on the death certificate that COVID-19 is “a” cause of death.

The DSHS is supporting Aransas County in identifying any close contacts of the patients so they can be isolated and monitored for symptoms. If the DSHS has not contacted you, there is no need to take any action at this time.

The public can find up-to-date coronavirus information and what to do if you’re sick at dshs.texas.gov.

Additionally, testing information is available on the same website.
