Dead on scene

Phillip Chupe, 63, of Rockport was killed in a hit and run accident Tuesday, Nov. 19 on Business Highway 35 S. The Rockport Police Department is seeking information about the driver of the vehicle that hit Chupe.

Rockport Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that hit and killed 63-year-old Phillip Chupe in a hit and run accident at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the 1200 block of Business Highway 35 S. (across from Ancient Oaks RV Park).

The suspect was last seen traveling south from the area toward Aransas Pass. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2011 to 2016 Chevrolet Cruze or similar vehicle and is believed to be dark in color. The vehicle should have extensive damage to the right front as well as damage along the right side. The area in which this collision occurred is well travelled, and investigators believe people in the area around the time of this incident may have seen the collision or the suspect vehicle.

Chupe, a Rockport resident, was struck in the roadway while operating a mobility scooter in the southbound lanes.

The vehicle, which apparently struck Chupe, fled the scene immediately after the collision without stopping.

Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Diana McGinnis pronounced Chupe dead at the scene.
