The aggregate amount of sales tax rebate revenue received by the three local entities, which collect the tax, was up 1.56% this month, and is up 6.14% through the first four months of 2020.
Only the City of Rockport received a smaller check this month than it did in April 2019.
Aransas County received 3.88% more and 3.45% more from its half-cent sales tax rebate and half-cent special use sales tax rebate, respectively. The City of Rockport received 1.32% less. The Town of Fulton received 6.82% more.
Sales tax rebate revenue reflected in this month’s checks is based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.
The Town of Fulton received a check for $15,871.24 this month, compared to $14,856.77 in April 2019. The town has collected $64,721.81 (+11.69%) year to date, compared to $57,946.52 for the same period last year.
The City of Rockport received $202,852.82 this month, compared to $205,569.74 in April 2019. The City has collected $849,475.28 (+2.58%) year to date, compared to $828,047.51 for the same period last year.
Aransas County received $125,578.86 this month, compared to $120,880.37 in April 2019. Year to date, the county has received $529,177.52 (+8.81%), compared to $486,301.13 for the same period last year.
The county also received a check for $125,441.80 from its half-cent special use sales tax, compared to $121,252.20 in April 2019. The county has received $528,783.70 (+8.83%) year to date, compared to $485,847.90 through April last year.
Money received via the special use sales tax is used to fund health-related expenses such as indigent health care and mosquito control.
Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts received $701.8 million in sales tax allocations, down .5%, compared with April 2019.
The comptroller sent $448 million in sales tax to Texas cities, down 1.4%, compared to April 2019 payments.
Texas counties received sales tax payments of $43.6 million, down 3.8%, compared to April 2019 payments.
Special purpose taxing districts received sales tax payments of $55.5 million, up six percent, compared to April 2019 payments.
