The Leadership Aransas County (LAC) Alumni Association is hosting a Candidates Panel and Issues Forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at the Woman’s Club of Aransas County (located across from Rockport Harbor).

This is an informational panel about contested races in the March 3 Primary Election for County Attorney, Aransas County Commissioner (Precincts 1 and 3), and County Tax Assessor/Collector.

Michael Gibson of KIII TV Channel 3 will emcee the event.

LAC Alumni and Youth Leadership participants and graduates will be involved in all aspects of the forum, from serving on the question review panel, announcements, question collectors, timekeepers, refreshments and promotion.

“The purpose of this forum is two-fold: to provide the community information about the candidates, as well as to expose our adult and youth leaders to community issues and the election process,” said Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Diane Probst.

Each candidate will have a three-minute opening statement that describes his or her platform. Members of the audience will submit a question to a specific candidate, and the candidate will have one minute to respond. The opposing candidate will be given one minute for rebuttal.

At the end of the evening each candidate will be given one minute for a closing statement.

The eight candidates vying for the four contested positions are:

County Attorney

Kristen Barnebey (incumbent)

Amanda Oster

Pct. 1 Commissioner

Jack Chaney (incumbent)

Melissa Esquivel

Pct. 3 Commissioner

Charles Smith (incumbent)

Pat Rousseau

County Tax Assessor-Collector

Anna Marshall

Jeffery Hutt

This is an opportunity to learn the candidates’ platforms and get answers to your questions. The forum is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
