Aransas County commissioners proclaimed June 13, 2022 Richard Dominguez Appreciation Day honoring his contributions to the community. Dominguez served in the United States Air Force, and in the years since, has continued to distinguish himself through his service to his fellow veterans. Shortly after his discharge, he became a member of the American GI Forum and a close friend of the Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Dr. Hector P. Garcia. In 1966 he helped found the Rockport chapter of the GI Forum, becoming a lifetime member of the group, and of the local Disabled American Veterans chapter. He later played a vital role in the creation of Veterans Memorial Park. In April 2004 Dominguez demonstrated remarkable courage and compassion when he volunteered to speak with a U.S. Army veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who had shot and taken hostage two employees at Rockport-Fulton High School. Thanks to his heroic intervention, the standoff was resolved without loss of life.

Aransas County Judge C.H. “Burt” Mills presents a proclamation recognizing Richard Dominguez, for his contributions to the community, to Anita Dominguez and Mary Helen Moreno.
