Roadwork on way

Aransas County Navigation District Commissioners approved a new bid for the Rockport Harbor Pavement Improvements Project. Work is expected to begin after Seafair.

Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) commissioners, at their regular meeting Monday, Sept. 20, approved a new recommendation of G&W Engineers to award the bid for the Rockport Harbor Pavement Improvements Project to Lester Contracting for $111,210.

The original bid was awarded May 3 to Mo-Con Services, Inc. for $74,873.50, but that company failed to perform, and its contract was terminated.

Updated bids were received from Lester Contracting and Clyde Kazmir Construction, with Lester’s bid being the low bid.

“This is a much-needed project,” said Harbor Master Keith Barrett. “We’ll push to have work start immediately after Seafair.”

At the May 3 meeting Barrett said, “It (roadway in front of Capt. Cady’s and Pelican bait stands) is deteriorating at a rapid rate.”

It was also noted at that meeting that G&W Engineers researched Mo-Con Services, a company the ACND had never used, and they “appeared to be qualified and capable of performing the required work.”
