The Aransas County Independent School District (ACISD) Board of Trustees met Thursday, Oct. 29 in a special meeting at the Rockport-Fulton High School Commons to continue discussion into hiring a new superintendent.
In a closed session meeting, the board met with Walsh Gallegos Associates and Gary Patterson for nearly four hours. They reviewed 43 applications that met the requirements set from feedback given by staff, parents and community members during an online survey that closed Thursday, Oct. 16.
Of the 43 applicants, no one inside the ACISD applied. Current Interim ACISD Superintendent Rose Tran did not apply.
After review, the board narrowed its prospective list down to nine applicants and agreed to begin the interview process in the coming week.
The interviews began Monday, Nov. 2 at Fulton Learning Center. Three applicants were interviewed in closed session.
The board was scheduled to interview three candidates Tuesday, Nov. 3, and another three candidates Wednesday, Nov. 4.
ACISD Board President Ray Garza said the plan is to announce the ACISD’s new superintendent by Wednesday, Nov. 11.
After conducting their last scheduled interview Wednesday, Nov. 4, the board will meet again Monday, Nov. 9 for a final review and assessment of the nine applicants.
If a decision is not made Monday, Nov. 9, they have the option to meet again Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Garza feels very confident the board will hire one of the nine applicants next week.
ACISD Board Vice President Kenneth Cruzan said they received applications from many well-qualified individuals across Texas.
Prior to interviewing the first candidate, Cruzan said, “We feel we have a great pool of applicants and are very excited to begin interviews.”
