“My name is Kristen Barnebey and I am your County and District Attorney for Aransas County. (I am seeking reelection to that position in the March 3 Primary Election.)

“Thank you for allowing me to serve you. It is a privilege to help make our families safer and continue our community effort to keep Aransas County the best place to live in the country.

“Many of you know my family has lived in Aransas County for decades. I graduated from Rockport Fulton High School in 1986 and after a successful career practicing law across Texas, I decided to move home in 2012 to serve Aransas County and raise my children in my hometown.

“My boys attend Aransas County Independent School District schools, and since 2012, I have volunteered for many nonprofit organizations, including Odyssey After School Enrichment, the Rockport Center for the Arts, Aransas County Childrens’ Foundation, and others.

“As an elected official, I believe service to the community is essential. My parents taught me early on the importance of being involved in our region. I am particularly proud of my mother’s work in the arts community and that my dad was the first Republican elected as a county official where he served as a county commissioner for 12 years.

“One of my first experiences in government was working on the staff of State Rep. Todd Hunter when he represented Aransas County. I still consider him my mentor and often turn to him for advice. He has always said to do what is right, even if it is unpopular at the time.

“That advice has been crucial for me during these past five years as we have sought to make this office one that listens to the citizens and prosecutes areas of crime which have historically gone unpunished.

“That’s why our office has prosecuted human trafficking, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect cases as well as sexual assault, illegal drugs, theft and many others. By providing overall solutions and making hard decisions, the County District Attorney’s office has also helped educate citizens by providing solutions for longstanding local issues.

“Many of you have heard about the conflict between the County District Attorney’s office and the Rockport Police Department. Without trying to rehash that history, let me just note we are working hard with our new police chief to ensure we have all the information on each case and all parties strictly follow the law.  The new chief agrees and his statement can be found at KristenBarnebey.com.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the Aransas County Commissioner’s Court and victims of crime by punishing the wrongdoers, and protecting those that cannot protect themselves.  And I promise you I will stand up for what is right and continue to follow and enforce the laws of Texas to ensure that justice prevails in Aransas County.”
