A fire called in about 2:45 p.m. Monday, June 10 on West Pond Lane off Highway 188, between the Hwy. 35 Bypass and FM 1069, destroyed this double-wide manufactured home. Rockport Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Sims said firefighters from the Rockport, Fulton, Lamar, and Ingleside fire departments responded. He said nobody was at home, but a dog miraculously survived after it was discovered in a back room. The EMS was called back to the scene to provide oxygen for the dog. Sims said a cause for the blaze has not been determined, but it appeared to have started near the front door of the home. “It (the front) was all gone when we arrived,” he said. A couple of firefighters had to take a break while fighting the flames due to the smoke and heat. “It was hot,” said Sims.
