Hagar pavilion

Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Board Members, Bay Blazers, and staff were joined by guests recently to celebrate a ribbon cutting at the new pavilion area for the Connie Hagar Cottage Sanctuary.

Located at the corner of Church St. and E. First Street, the Connie Hagar Cottage Sanctuary covers 6.25 acres and is an excellent representation of oak motte (remnants of woodland) and coastal prairie habitats, both critical for neo-tropical migrants and many resident birds.

Nearly 200 species of birds have been observed at the Cottage Sanctuary. It is the original site of the Rockport Cottages, owned by Jack and Connie Hagar. It is the centerpiece of the Friends of Connie Hagar as an outdoor education center to increase awareness of the Connie Hagar legacy and the birds of the Coastal Bend. The Sanctuary’s grounds are entirely maintained by The Friends of Connie Hagar and the Aransas County Pathways.
