The Rockport-Fulton community is rebounding and a tourism celebration is on the minds of business owners in anticipation of a summer season that could put them closer to pre-Harvey numbers.

A “Vacation Celebration” event is planned for Tuesday, May 14 at the Community Hangar at the Aransas County Airport.

It kicks off at 10 a.m. with an open house and golf cart tours of the airport facilities. Guests are encouraged to arrive early in their vacation attire.

At 11 a.m. guests can mix and mingle while local musician Janelle Setters plays an array of music genres that celebrate the vacation spirit.

At noon Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board Jatin Bhakta will recognize elected officials and speakers from the Texas Travel Industry Association. Hospitality and Meeting Business Activity Awards will also be presented to worthy individuals.

The entire community is invited and encouraged to register and be a part of the celebration. A video of the event will be made.

“We all need to come together in celebration of great progress in the recovery effort,” said Chamber President/CEO Diane Probst.

The chamber is also highlighting local attractions that have done well in the recovery effort. They will be competing for the best decorated centerpiece, which depicts their facility or events.

In a previous meeting, the local attraction representative was presented with a glass vase and encouraged to make it come alive touting their facility or an event.

Attendees will be encouraged to vote on his or her favorite entry. The winning centerpiece will be announced at the luncheon.

During each luncheon, an organization doing great things for our community is recognized. A raffle and tabletop fundraiser is coordinated and all proceeds are awarded to that organization. Tuesday’s luncheon will feature the non-profit organization CASA of the Coastal Bend. Its mission is to advocate for the children of the Coastal Bend. Proceeds from the raffle will provide toys and activities for a Children’s Room. These toys will entertain children during court proceedings.

To register for the luncheon, go to The cost is $20 per person for members, and $25 per person for non-members. Reserved tables for eight people are also available.
