James Garrett Jr. , born October 12, 1928 to Jim and Hattie Garrett, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning, January 19, 2010 at the age of 81 after a ten-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, devoted sons Randy and Ronald, their wives Kelly and Wanda, his three grandchildren Tyler, Kristina, and Kelsey, and step-grandchildren Kayla, and Devin.
James will be remembered as a father, a best friend, and an inspiration to those who knew him. His passion for life was unheralded, as he was an active member of his church, the loving leader of his family, and avid fishermen eager to teach those around about his faith while teaching them to fish.
He will be missed while never forgotten. His services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 24 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Services were officiated by Brothers Charles Fake and Dr. Glenn Young. Viewing with the family and friends was held on Saturday, Janaury 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the same location.
Donations in memory of James can be made to Q STAFF Hospice at 17300 Saturn Lane, Suite 111, Houston, TX 77058, or his two churches of membership Rockport First Baptist Church or Clear Baptist Church.
