VOLLEYBALL: Pirates continue winning streak with win over Ray

The Rockport-Fulton High School varsity Pirate volleyball team handed the Corpus Christi Ray Lady Texans a loss in three games Friday, Oct. 16.
The Pirates won 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19 to improve to 10-0 in district.
The Pirates took charge in the first game with a 7-1 lead.
The Lady Texans rallied to come within three, 16-19.
At that point, RFHS scored the next six points as Ray struggled with passing, hitting, and net errors.
The Pirates scored with 12 kills, four blocks, and one ace. They missed four serves and had three hit errors.
Ray was held to six kills and two aces. They missed one serve and had four hitting errors.
The hosts pulled out to an 11-5 lead in the second game, and stretched it to 16-11 before Ray battled to come within one, 15-16.
In the next eight rotations, the Pirates outscored Ray 9-4 to take the win.
The Pirates scored eight kills, fours aces and four blocks in the game, The missed four serves, and recorded six hitting errors.
The Lady Texans scored with nine kills and an ace. They missed one serve and had three hitting errors.
In the third and final game, the Pirates dominated and pulled out to a 12-3 lead.
The Texans did not back down and brought the game to within one point, 18-19.
The Pirates scored the next four, three on Ray errors, to surge ahead 23-18.
After a Pirate was called for a net violation, RFHS scored back-to-back kills to take the game and match.
Overall game statistics are as follows: Chayla Garza - 19 assists, four digs, two kills, two aces, one block; Brandi Huff - 11 kills, six blocks, four digs, two aces; Morgan Albrecht - six kills, eight digs, one ace; Megan Marshall - five kills, three digs; Erika Williams - three kills, one block; Mary Reed - three aces, two digs; Taylor Patek - 13 digs; Hannah Ochoa - four assists, one dig; Bevi Wilson - two assists, one kill; Candace Foster - one dig, one assist; and Vanessa Ngo, two digs.

They will travel to Gregory-Portland Friday, Oct. 23 for a 5:30 p.m. matchup to end their district season.
