LAC Class XIII graduates 16

| Members of Leadership Aransas County Class XIII graduated Thursday. The 16 members of Leadership Aransas County Class XIII graduated Thursday, June 18 in a special ceremony at the Rockport County Club. With this graduation, 181 individuals have completed the program since its inception.
After an orientation in September of last year, the group participated in classes for nine months, starting with a team building ropes course in October 2008. That was followed with classes about local history, education, law enforcement, government, the local economy and tourism, healthcare, and planning and leadership skills. The final class this month featured the media and public speaking.
Each graduate reflected on the program, speaking about what it meant to him or her.
Alumni chairman Steve Berger made a brief presentation about the Alumni Association and the importance of staying involved.
Class XIII and steering committee chairman Brain Olsen praised the class for its enthusiasm and commitment to the program. He noted the Class XIII project, the facade improvements at the Aquarium at Rockport Harbor, was challenging.
“You came in under budget and ahead of schedule,” said Olsen.
The class raised almost $12,000 for the project. It ended up costing only about $8,600. The remaining funds were donated to the Aquarium.
Olsen then turned over the chairmanship to Class XIV chairman Bruce Baird with the ceremonial passing of the gavel.
“Brian, you did a wonderful job,” said Baird. “Just as Class XII inspired us, I hope we’ll inspire Class XIV.”
Class XIII coordinator Shelly Stuart was presented a bouquet of flowers in recognition for her hard work during the year.
