YAMINI

On Tuesday December 30, 2008, Sara Bradford Williams Yamini sweetly flew with the angels to join her husband of 63 years, George Oliver Yamini. A gentle spirit, friend of nature, loving wife and mother, generous friend, and an amazing lady with humor in her heart and a twinkle in her eyes, Sara Yamini will be missed by many, and remembered by all.

Sara was born in Dallas on March 31, 1919 to Gracietta and Jo P. Williams. After graduating from High School in Oak Cliff, Sara attended, and was graduated from, The University of Texas, Austin. She taught school in the area until her marriage to George Yamini on June, 12, 1941. She and George met while she was at The University of Texas and he was at Texas A&M University, College Station. After they married, George was assigned by the Army to Hudson Bay in the Artic Circle. While in the Army, Sara and George lived in Massachusetts, Louisiana, and Binghampton, New York. After his service, they returned home to Dallas where George was very active in the Building and Home and Apartment industry in Dallas.

While always keeping a home in Dallas, Sara and George spent most of their time, the last 20 years, at their home in the Texas coastal town of Rockport where they had many wonderful times, and many wonderful friends. They rarely missed their favorite Sunday night “Shanghai group”, and they enjoyed their friends at The Rockport Country Club, The Key Allegro Yacht Club, Coastwatchers, The Texas Maritime Museum, and The First United Methodist Church. Though Dallasites, they loved to escape to Hidden Hill, on Lake Dallas, and all of their lifelong friends there. A renowned birdwatcher, Sara was also an award-winning artist creating works in not only all mediums of painting, but also in silversmithing, pottery, jewelry making, sewing, and flower-arranging. Loving the out of doors, water and boating, “Sara could out-fish the best of them.” She also held a “Press-Card” having taken journalism classes as an adult, and had pieces published in The Dallas Morning News, Life Magazine, and Readers Digest. A busy volunteer, she also gave countless hours of community service. Sara was a member of Christ Episcopal Church until she married George when they joined the First United Methodist Church in Downtown Dallas. A very faithful and spiritual person, Sara would say, “A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like Medicine.” (Proverbs 17:22).

Sara was preceded in death by her husband George, her brother Horace Williams of Dallas, her brother Joe Williams of Waco, and her sisters Grace Williams Holcomb of Mt. Pleasant, and True Williams Sandlin of Mt. Pleasant.

Sara is survived by her daughter Sally Yamini of Dallas, her sister Alice Williams Dahman of Dallas, her sister-in-law Mary Alice Williams of Austin and her sister-in-law Norma Yamini of Dallas. She is also survived by many wonderful and loving nieces, nephews and other family members whom she loved dearly.

We know that Sara and Sally would like to express their great thanks, appreciation and love to all of Sara's blessed caretakers from Dallas, Margaret Starr, Cindy Carrington, Belinda Honey, Andrea Bradley, Janet Renshaw, Dayna Hughes, Rene St. Clair, and from Rockport, Lupe Lopez, Sophia Guckian, Gloria Anthes, Gloria Barrera and Eugenia Kowalik. A special thank you from the family to Sara's most trusted and loved friend, companion and caretaker, Sue Barnhart, of Rockport, who made the final years of both Sara and George the best that they could have possibly been, with Sue's constant loving care.

A private graveside service was held on Saturday, January 3rd at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, 214-689-2648, or the Clayton Dabney Foundation, 214-750-8850.

Funeral arrangements conducted by

Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas.
