Rockport-Fulton High School head football coach Guy Grover has taken over the position of Aransas County Independent School District athletic director as of Wednesday, Dec. 10 as announced by Superintendent Joseph Patek.
Grover replaces Bill Barr who has been an administrator with the district since 1998.
Patek explained Barr plans to retire in May 2009 after 33 years in education. For a few years now, Barr has been performing double duty as both director of special education and athletic director.
The superintendent said, “His love of sports and experience as a coach made him uniquely qualified for this dual role.”
Although he will concentrate on special education issues through the end of the year, Barr said he still plans to attend all the student athletic events he can fit into his schedule.
Grover will now assume the dual role of athletic director and head football coach. He has been working closely with Barr over the last year in preparation for the transition.
Grover was hired as head football coach in February of 2007, and also has served as boys athletic coordinator. He has more than eight years of previous experience in the position of athletic director/head football coach in the Skidmore-Tynan, Bandera, and Aransas Pass school districts.
Grover said he is proud to be associated with the ACISD students and staff and looks forward to working with everyone.
The new AD said he is excited about the potential for next year in all sports, adding like all educators, they are raising their expectations.
Both Patek and Grover said his move had been discussed before the beginning of the year, Now with the football season over, it was time to make the change.
Grover said he is already reviewing the staffing, and budget and getting accustomed to what the job entails.
