The 60th anniversary of the Woman's Club of Aransas County was celebrated Sunday with a two-hour open house. Betty Kaberline, chairperson for the event, said more than 170 people attended.
Attendees reminisced about the past with old friends, members and past presidents. Tables full of memorabilia, including the original charter for the club, the original lease from the Aransas County Navigation District, and scrapbooks highlighting the group's worthwhile projects, were available for viewing.
Recognition of the milestone was given via proclamation by Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Rep. Ron. Paul, State Sen. Glenn Hegar, and the City of Rockport.
Food, provided by members, as well as door prizes, were enjoyed by those attending the event.
Woman's Club president Jeanne McDonald said, “I'm really pleased with how much of the community turned out. We really appreciate the support.”
The club's first president, Mrs. Fred Hunt, as well as other past presidents, were recognized with pictures displayed on a table.
The building, a former Humble Oil Refinery building which was moved from Ingleside, has been used continuously by the club.
On Monday, during a normal gathering of Club members, Kaberline, and co-chair Thursey Sutton, were presented with $100 apiece for their work organizing the celebration.

Instead of presenting this to the scientific world in a peer reviewed journal, these guys publish it in this book in an attempt to sway public opinion. I could go on as many of the statements in this article are misleading, or blatantly ludicrous. Suffice it to say, it looks to me like this book is much more about influencing public opinion than any scientific review of whether human activity is causing climate change.
It is sad some people will believe this as fact. "
