Sheriff resigns, court to meet about replacement
The Aransas County commissioners court will hold a special meeting Monday to consider appointing sheriff-elect William “Bill” Mills as sheriff to fill the unexpired term of Sheriff Mark Gilliam, who has tendered his resignation.
Gilliam reportedly has accepted a post elsewhere and submitted a resignation letter effective midnight on Oct. 31.
The court has the option to appoint an interim sheriff and will discuss the appointment of the sheriff-elect, who is scheduled to take office Jan. 1, 2009.
If appointed, Mills will have to resign his Precinct 2 constable post, at which time the court can consider appointing constable-elect Michael Gregg to serve ot the remaining unexpired term.
