Obituaries for October 8, 2008
Charles David Buck, 68, died October 4, 2008, at home in Rockport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wilburn Buck and Velma Lee Kelly Buck.
David was born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 20, 1940. At Hume-Fogg High School, he was Senior Class President, captain of the football team, and recipient of the Civitan Citizenship Award. After high school, David graduated summa cum laude from Middle Tennessee State University. During his multi-faceted career, David worked in the auto industry, was an Assoc. Professor of Psychology, designed, owned and operated a dairy farm, designed, built and lived in an underground house, flew and instructed others on multi-engine airplanes, and designed and built a large pottery kiln. For many years, he was a counselor at North Bay Hospital in Aransas Pass and at ACCESS in Rockport. To his friends, he is best remembered as a lover of sailing and a gifted artist (the late Simon Michael praised him as being one of his two finest students). His true passion, other than his wife, Barbara, was his painting. He held many one-man exhibitions and sold both domestically and internationally.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Stonestreet Buck of Rockport, and his two sons, David Kelly (Pam) Buck and Charles Franklin Buck, both of Tennessee.
