Hester Ann Allinice, 84, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. She was born May 16, 1924 in Elkhart. She had been a Rockport resident since 1947.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Allinice Jr. of Rockport; one son, James Allinice of Beaumont; two daughters, Virginia Harvey of San Antonio, and Naomi King of Rusk; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3 until 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 22 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Aransas Memorial Park.
MSGT William B. Arnold, USAF, Ret., 77, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008. He was born Aug. 4, 1931 in Dallas. After serving three years in the Army, he began his lifelong career with the U.S. Air Force. He had been a Rockport resident since 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two daughters, Jody Varner and Anita Enns, both of San Antonio; one niece; and one nephew.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Jane Devenport, formerly of Ingleside and Aransas Pass and for the past five years of Houston, has gone to live with her heavenly father.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Davenport of Ingleside, and her great grandson, Harry Daniel Dalian. She is survived by her brother, Richard Odom of Bastrop, her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kathryn Milton of Houston, her granddaughter and husband, Kendra and Harry Dalian and great-granddaughter, Kaylee Jane Dalian of East Hampton, New York, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She especially loved and took great joy in visiting with her nephew and his wife, Clint and Lyndia Odom of Pasadena.
Visitation was held from noon until 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, 814 E. Main, Rockport. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.
Mom, we will remember that you taught us to find beauty in all things and you taught us that when all is said and done, love is the most important of all. We will miss you Mom and our Mamaw.
John Alford Goff, 68, of La Porte, died September 15, 2008. He was born October 17, 1940 in Aransas County, Texas. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition, he proudly served as a member of the La Porte Fire Department and was a Navy veteran. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge.
A Memorial Service is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church-La Porte, 9601 Fairmont Parkway in La Porte. A private family viewing was held Sept. 18, 2008. Arrangements are under the direction of Paul U. Lee-La Porte Funeral Home.
John is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Stephanie Goff Kramer and husband Mark Kramer; son Richard Goff and wife Camille Goff; and grandchildren Ivy Kramer, Zachary Goff and Alexandria Goff. He is also survived by a brother, Jeff Goff of Dayton. John was a member of La Porte First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, John B. Goff, mother Mary Goff, sister Susie Goff and brother Lynn Goff.
Growing up in Rockport, John was active in sports and earned All-District honors in football at Rockport High School, where he graduated in 1959. He then attended the University of Texas, and then served in the United States Navy. John married his wife Linda in 1966 and they lived in Rockport, Big Spring, TX and Mojave, CA. They moved to the La Porte area in the mid-1970s and he worked as an operator at Shell Oil Refinery in Deer Park until his retirement in 2002. John was an active firefighter for the City of La Porte for many years until his retirement in 2002. While his son Richard was playing football at La Porte High School in the early 1980s, John was an active member of the LPHS Bulldog Booster Club.
John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to his granddaughter Ivy play clarinet in the La Porte Junior High Band. He also served as a defensive coach on the Bay Area Sharks, his grandson Zachary's youth football team, and he enjoyed watching his youngest granddaughter Alexandria perform in dance recitals and school programs.
John was an active member of La Porte Masonic Lodge No. 857, where was a Past Master. He served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 2006-2007 and served in a variety of leadership positions in more than 25 years as a Mason. John was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the York Rite. He is also a former member of Rockport Masonic Lodge.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Shriner's Burn Institute, La Porte Masonic Lodge or the charity of your choice.
Elsie Mae Huff, 86, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008. She was born May 19, 1922 in Tivoli and was a lifelong resident of Rockport. She was a founding member and ordained minister at the Church of God.
She is survived by three sons, Leonard “Kelly” (Sarah) Huff of Fulton, Don C. Huff and Ruford (Linda) Huff, both of Rockport; five daughters, Doris Huff and Betty (Rufus) Morgan, both of Seattle, WA, Alice (Rev. Roy Jr.) Conwell of Houston, Beverly (James) Johnson of Rockport, and Julie (Chevez) Wilson of Pittsburgh, CA; three sisters; 23 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation was to be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19 at the Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Church of God with Rev. Roy L. Conwell Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Austwell Cemetery in Austwell.
