The Rockport-Fulton High School Pirate varsity football team opens its 2008 season Friday at Orange Grove. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
“Orange Grove has good tradition,” said Head Coach Guy Grover. “From what I understand they did not make the playoffs last year for the first time in many years. They are hungry.”
Grover, in his second year at the helm at RFHS, said Orange Grove beat Beeville in a scrimmage last week.
“They looked impressive,” he said.
The Pirates have two scrimmages under their belt leading into Friday's game. On Aug. 16 La Vernia scored four touchdowns to the Pirates' two in both teams' first scrimmage.
Last Friday RFHS traveled to Flour Bluff and were outscored 4-2.
“We improved from the first scrimmage,” said Grover. “The areas we needed to work on, we did work on. Like many teams, we have some injuries and other kids have had to step in.”
Starting Friday the games count. It's full speed ahead for the 2008 Pirates.
Tickets for the general public and students are available at the ACISD administration office and may be purchased through 4 p.m. Thursday.
No pre-sale tickets will be sold on Friday.
Pre-sale tickets are $6 for reserved seats, $5 for adult general admission and $3 for all students, grades K through 12 (general admission).
All tickets at the gate are $6.
