The local Whataburger restaurant will close its doors Sept. 2 in preparation for a the construction of bigger facility which is set to reopen before Thanksgiving, weather permitting.
According to a news release issued by Katelyn Collier of SPM Communications, Whataburger officials decided it was time to replace the existing building with a larger restaurant and parking lot to serve the company's loyal customers.
The current restaurant has been a part of the Rockport community for nearly 30 years.
The new, larger restaurant will feature Whataburger's classic A-frame design and orange and white stripes. The dining room will be built to seat more than 60 customers, fitting for a hangout after a football game, Collier said.
Once the new building is complete, landscaping will include several large trees planted around the building, near the drive-through area, and along the front by the highway.
The current location will be closed approximately 60 to 90 days with the anticipation the new restaurant will be ready by Thanksgiving.
Collier noted, “Until then, residents can satisfy their Whataburger cravings in neighboring communities such as Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Portland and Taft.”
